SKINCARE ROUTINE

I get quite a lot of questions about my skincare routine and as it’s a somewhat complicated affair I thought I’d write a blog post about it and share all! My products change slightly every now and then depending on whether I’m doing an online order or buying things in town and also how my bank balance is looking but the general routine never changes and I love the results it’s given me since I’ve started doing it over the past year or so!

My morning and evening routine is pretty similar, obviously when I’ve woken up in the morning I don’t need to remove any make up but the rest stays the same!

Step 1 – Cleanse

At the moment I’m using Clinique’s Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm to both remove my make up and to generally wash my face. I just apply it to dry skin and rub in to remove my make up or just any impurities built up throughout the day. Then I get a warm cloth and remove the product. If I’ve just removed my make up, I’ll repeat this step again to actually wash my face. Then I throw the flannel in the wash!! I use a clean flannel every day and throw it in the wash every evening. I really think this is so important to stop transferring dirt onto your face day after day. You can buy packs of flannels quite cheaply from places like Primark and Matalan and once you’ve got a couple of packs you’re sorted!

 Step 2 – Exfoliate/Tone

After drying my face I then apply an exfoliating toner to really get my skin working and help repair any spot scarring and just generally get my skin to glow. At the moment I’m using the Pixi Glow Tonic and I just apply some to a cotton pad and run it all over my face. I’ve also used the First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads which are really convenient as the pads are already soaked in the product so you just take one out of the pot, use it and chuck it. But if you’re wanting something that really works but is also really cost effective I’d recommend the Glow Tonic – I use it twice a day and am only just reaching the bottom of my bottle since buying it in October.

 Step 3 – Hydrate

After about 5 minutes of letting the toner do it’s thing, my skin needs some moisture. I started using eye cream about a year or so ago as I’m reaching the age where I need to start looking after my skin so my future wrinkle-free self can thank me! I use the Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. I just dab a bit of the product onto the ring finger of each hand and dab it around the orbital bone to both hydrate my under eye area and to combat wrinkles. I’ve also found that since using eye cream concealer on my under-eye area goes on a lot better. £20 might seem a lot for that little pot but you only use a tiny bit – one pot lasts me about 5/6 months using it twice a day!

Step 4 – Serum

Then I use a serum to really treat my skin. I can have slightly dry skin, especially around my nose and forehead which then also makes your foundation look flaky and so I use The Body Shop’s Vitamin E Moisture Serum to give me as much moisture as possible. Serums have a very different consistency to moisturiser and make such a difference if you have dry skin. I ran out of serum a few weeks ago and tried to get by with just moisturiser but my skin felt so much tighter and dehydrated – it makes a huge difference!

Step 5 – Moisturise

Then finally I apply moisturiser to just pack in as much hydration as I can. I use the Vitamin E Moisture Cream again, from The Body Shop, which is lovely and light to use on a daily basis and doesn’t break the bank.

So there we have it! My skincare routine. It might seem like a lot of faff but it genuinely doesn’t take that much time out of my day and I have noticed such a difference in my skin. Of course I do get the odd breakout but it’s only one or two spots and the rest of my skin is a lot more glowing and clear. If you’re quite lazy with your skincare and by the time its bedtime you just want to get rid of it asap and jump into bed I’d recommend doing your skincare routine a bit earlier on in the evening before you get too sleepy. I do mine at about 8pm each night when I still have the energy to do it properly and then I have the rest of my evening to relax without the task looming over me!
